PHNX
Founder, Maverick Starr Productions
Writer. Director. Actor. Disruptor.

“You can’t turn dreams into reality while you’re sleeping.” That mantra fuels PHNX’s relentless drive—often surviving on four hours or less a night while building stories that demand to be felt.

Born in North Carolina and now based in Southern California, PHNX is a multi-hyphenate creative force whose work spans screenwriting, directing, acting, and world-building. His roots trace back to the stage—touring in a theatrical troupe, hosting a radio show on 88.7 WXDU, and experimenting with rhythm and tone as a self-taught musician.
After cutting his teeth in standup comedy and the indie film scene, he launched Maverick Starr Productions—a creative engine for culturally rich, genre-bending stories built to shake the table.

In 2016, Maverick Starr released its first critically acclaimed web series, TheirBnb. In 2017, PHNX partnered with Black Sands Entertainment as lead writer for the manga series Sons of Nibiru, helping to expand one of the most recognizable Black-owned IP catalogs in independent publishing.
In 2019, the short film She Lives won the Create the Writer’s Room Competition. A year later, PHNX’s supernatural thriller Omotunde won Best Feature Screenplay at the Hollywood Horror Film Festival.

In 2022, Central Avenue made it to the finals of the Sundance Episodic Lab, and in 2023, Onyx—written by Britt Adams—won the Sundance Episodic Lab outright. Both projects are now in active development.
In 2024, through his publishing imprint Maverick Starr Publishing, PHNX released two groundbreaking graphic novels: Central Avenue: Echoes of Harlem, a prequel to the series, and Central Avenue: The Pacific Gold Heist, now being adapted for television. Each novel features over 500 full-color, photorealistic images—every one of them created by PHNX himself.

Part of a new vanguard of African-American storytellers reshaping Hollywood, PHNX isn’t just creating content—he’s crafting canon. His original IP doesn’t pander or posture; it translates, connects, and cuts across borders. PHNX isn't chasing a moment—he’s building the mythology behind the next cultural shift!
